New York City FC vs Inter Miami: Match Preview
New York City FC will once again be without Keaton Parks, Malachi Jones, and Nico Cavallo, all sidelined with leg injuries. The hosts will hope to build on their solid defensive display from last weekend, when Matt Freese recorded a clean sheet and Alonso Martinez scored twice from the penalty spot to secure the win over Charlotte.
Inter Miami have several absentees of their own. Fabrice Picault (quad strain), David Ruiz (hamstring), and Allen Obando (hamstring) all missed their previous outing, and Telasco Segovia will sit out due to suspension.
Sunday brought major news for Miami as it was reported that World Cup winner Sergio Busquets will retire at the end of the season when his two-and-a-half-year contract expires.
Luis Suárez is eligible to return from suspension and could bolster Miami’s attack. In his absence, Lionel Messi has been in scintillating form, netting a brace and setting up Tadeo Allende’s strike last weekend. Messi’s contributions made him the fastest player in MLS history to reach 70 goal contributions, and he currently leads the Golden Boot race with 22 goals.
