Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid – Team News & Preview
Atletico Madrid welcomed Alex Baena back to the bench against Rayo Vallecano following his recovery from a muscular problem and appendicitis surgery, but it is still too soon for the Spain international to start, so he is likely to feature as a substitute once again.
Jose Gimenez, Johnny Cardoso, and Thiago Almada remain sidelined through injury, but Alexander Sorloth returns from suspension and is expected to go straight back into the XI. Diego Simeone may also turn to Conor Gallagher for his work rate in a wide role, while Julian Alvarez is set to lead the line once more, having scored four goals in six La Liga appearances this season.
For Real Madrid, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ferland Mendy, and Antonio Rudiger are still absent, but otherwise the squad is in strong shape. Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao are likely to return in defence, while Aurelien Tchouameni should come back into midfield.
There is a chance that Jude Bellingham could start on the bench as he continues to be eased back following shoulder surgery, which would allow Arda Guler to retain his place in the number 10 role.
In attack, Kylian Mbappe is nailed on to start through the middle, flanked by Vinicius Junior and teenage sensation Franco Mastantuono, with Rodrygo and Eduardo Camavinga expected to be among the substitutes.
