Injury Updates and Team News Ahead of Liverpool vs Real Madrid

Ryan Gravenberch’s return from an ankle injury was a major boost for Liverpool fans on Saturday night. However, Arne Slot’s side were still without Alexander Isak and Curtis Jones, both sidelined due to groin issues, with the manager admitting they had just a 0.01% chance of featuring.

There is some positive news for the Reds, as Jones has now rejoined full training and could be available for selection. Isak, however, remains ruled out. Slot will also be unable to call upon Alisson Becker (hamstring), Giovanni Leoni (ACL), and Jeremie Frimpong (hamstring).

Slot’s tactical gamble at the weekend—resting Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez—paid off handsomely, and the Dutch coach is unlikely to make unnecessary changes ahead of facing the 15-time European champions. Expect Alexis Mac Allister and Andy Robertson, both rejuvenated, to retain their starting spots.

Meanwhile, in Madrid, Xabi Alonso is preparing for the trip to Anfield without several key defenders. Dani Carvajal (knee), Antonio Rudiger (muscle), and David Alaba (calf) are all sidelined, alongside teenage forward Franco Mastantuono (pubalgia).

Carvajal, who would have returned from a Champions League suspension, is now ruled out until 2026, opening the door for Trent Alexander-Arnold to face his former club. The right-back has yet to play a single minute since recovering from a hamstring injury, having been an unused substitute in Real’s last two La Liga outings. Should Alonso deem him short of match fitness, Federico Valverde could once again fill in at right-back.
