Match Preview: Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester City will once again be forced to cope without a number of senior names, with Mateo Kovacic and Kalvin Phillips (Achilles), as well as Savinho, Josko Gvardiol and Marcus Bettinelli (unspecified issues), all sidelined. However, there is positive news as Rodri, Phil Foden and Ederson are all back in contention, with the Brazilian goalkeeper vying to reclaim his spot between the posts after James Trafford kept a clean sheet on his debut against Wolves.

Gvardiol’s absence means Rayan Ait-Nouri should continue at left-back, while John Stones partners Ruben Dias in central defence — the latter having just signed a new long-term contract. On the opposite flank, Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis are competing for a starting berth.

In midfield, Bernardo Silva, Nico Gonzalez and Tijjani Reijnders could be trusted again, with Reijnders looking to become the first Man City player to both score and assist in his opening two Premier League appearances. Further forward, Oscar Bobb and Phil Foden may battle for a place on the right, while Erling Haaland spearheads the attack, chasing two Premier League scoring records after already netting 48 goals in 48 PL home games.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, they are without a host of key players: James Maddison (ACL), Radu Dragusin, Dejan Kulusevski, Bryan Gil (all knee), Manor Solomon (calf) and Kota Takai (foot). Destiny Udogie has returned to training but is not yet match-ready, while Yves Bissouma also misses out.

Head coach Thomas Frank is considering switching from a back four to a back five at the Etihad, with Kevin Danso pushing to join Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven in central defence. Pedro Porro and Djed Spence are options at wing-back.

In midfield, Rodrigo Bentancur is pressing for inclusion alongside Joao Palhinha and Pape Sarr, while in attack, Mohammed Kudus and Richarlison are expected to continue their partnership. Brennan Johnson provides another attacking option, though he could make way if Spurs reinforce their back line.
