After a shaky start to the 2022-23 campaign, which saw them lose their opening two fixtures, Al-Nassr have quickly rediscovered their stride. Luis Castro’s men arrive at this clash on the back of a 2-0 victory over Persepolis in the AFC Champions League, a result that not only placed them top of Group E but also stretched their winning run to six matches across all competitions.
During this impressive spell, Al-Nassr have scored 23 goals while conceding just four, underlining their growing balance in attack and defence. Their most recent league outing brought a 3-1 win at Al Raed, with Sadio Mane, Talisca, and Cristiano Ronaldo all on the scoresheet before Mohamed Fouzair netted a late consolation.
History also favours the Riyadh giants here, as they are unbeaten in their last three meetings with Al-Ahli, outscoring them 5-3 during that period.
For Al-Ahli, the return to the Saudi Pro League has been largely positive under new boss Matthias Jaissle, who has guided the side to five wins from six matches. Their only slip so far was a shock 5-1 defeat to Al Fateh, though they responded in style last weekend with a 3-2 triumph over Al Taawoun.
That win was sparked by an early goal from Abdulbasit Hindi and an own-goal from Waleed Al Ahmad, before Allan Saint-Maximin struck the decisive blow after Taawoun briefly fought back.
Still, defensive fragility remains a concern for Jaissle’s men — their nine goals conceded is the second-worst record among the top-half clubs. Against an Al-Nassr side brimming with firepower, this will be their sternest test yet and a real measure of their top-four credentials.
