Brentford vs Manchester United – Team News & Preview
Brentford boss Andrews faces some key selection calls this weekend. Gustavo Nunes and Paris Maghoma have made good progress in their recovery from hamstring injuries and will be assessed before kickoff, while Reiss Nelson remains a doubt through illness.
Andrews is weighing up whether to stick with a 3-5-2 formation to match United’s back three or switch to a back four. Jordan Henderson has impressed in recent weeks and could start alongside promising youngster Yehor Yarmolyuk in midfield. Kevin Schade, who netted twice in last season’s 4-3 thriller against United, should once again partner Igor Thiago in attack.
As for the visitors, Casemiro is suspended following his red card against Chelsea, while Lisandro Martinez remains sidelined with a long-term knee injury.
Manager Rúben Amorim also confirmed that Noussair Mazraoui is out until after October’s international break with a thigh problem, and Amad Diallo is unavailable due to a family bereavement. Diogo Dalot faces a late fitness test after missing the last two matches.
Should Dalot fail to recover, Patrick Dorgu could shift across to right wing-back, freeing up Luke Shaw to operate on the left, with Leny Yoro set to rejoin Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt in the back three.
Amorim is also considering giving new signing Senne Lammens his Premier League debut in goal, but may opt to persist with Altay Bayindir, who is still seeking his first clean sheet of the campaign.
In midfield, Manuel Ugarte is expected to partner captain Bruno Fernandes in Casemiro’s absence, while in attack Matheus Cunha is pushing for a start alongside Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo, who faces Brentford for the first time since his £71m summer move to Old Trafford.
