There was little in the way of fresh updates from Pep Guardiola’s pre-match press conference, with the Catalan confirming that his side emerged unscathed from the draw with Monaco — a match in which Rodri successfully completed 61 minutes on his return from injury.
Guardiola had previously expressed optimism that Omar Marmoush (knee) might feature again before the international break, but the Egyptian remains sidelined alongside Rayan Cherki (thigh), Abdukodir Khusanov (ankle) and Rayan Aït-Nouri (unspecified).
Overlooked by England boss Thomas Tuchel for the latest international squad, Phil Foden will be eager to make a statement this weekend. The 25-year-old has a fine record against Brentford, having netted seven Premier League goals against the Bees — six of which came at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Brentford, meanwhile, have been handed a timely boost, with Reiss Nelson (illness) and Fábio Carvalho (knee) both back in contention after missing the win over Manchester United. Gustavo Nunes is also nearing a return from a thigh problem, though he may first build up fitness with the B team, while Paris Maghoma (thigh) is expected to remain out until after the international break.
Despite the improving injury picture, manager Ben Andrews is unlikely to tinker with his starting XI following the impressive victory over United — especially with in-form forward Thiago having netted five goals from just six shots on target in all competitions this season.
