Inter Miami vs Atlanta United: Team News

Inter Miami face a setback ahead of the weekend clash, with Maximiliano Falcón suspended for one match after accumulating five yellow cards.

Veteran full-back Jordi Alba is expected to feature in what could be his final regular-season home game at Chase Stadium before retirement, following his announcement that he will join former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets in hanging up his boots at the end of the campaign. However, Alba and Luis Suárez both sit on four yellow cards and risk missing the final league fixture if they are booked on Sunday.

Head coach Javier Mascherano will also be without Mateo Silvetti, who is away on international duty with Argentina’s U20 side, while Allen Obando and David Ruiz remain long-term absentees due to hamstring injuries.

A decision is still pending on Lionel Messi’s participation, as he has been called up to Argentina’s squad for their upcoming friendlies against Venezuela and Puerto Rico. Given that both matches will be played in the United States—one of them in Miami—there remains a chance that the captain could appear for Inter before joining his national team next week.

On the other side, Atlanta United are set to be without several key players. Stian Gregersen, Enea Mihaj, and Juan Berrocal formed a new-look defensive trio in their last match against LAFC, but Mihaj’s international duty with Albania means Dominik Chong-Qui may be called upon for just his third MLS appearance of the season.

Injury concerns for coach Ronny Deila include Brooks Lennon (Achilles), Matthew Edwards and William Reilly (both hamstring), and Jay Fortune (foot). Promising attacker Luke Brennan is also unavailable as he joins the USA U20 squad for the World Cup.

Captain Miguel Almirón—who recently reached the milestone of 30 MLS appearances and is the club’s second-most used player this season—will be another major absentee as he travels with Paraguay for their Asian tour. His absence opens the door for Emmanuel Latte Lath to start up front, likely partnering Jamal Thiaré, who struck twice in the corresponding fixture last season.

With Aleksey Miranchuk and Bartosz Slisz also missing from midfield, Tristan Muyumba and 17-year-old Adyn Torres are expected to anchor the center of the park.
