Liverpool vs Everton – Match Preview

Liverpool boss Arne Slot is set to have a fully-fit squad available ahead of the Merseyside derby. Midfielder Curtis Jones returns to contention after missing the last two games with a minor issue, giving Slot a welcome selection boost.

The Reds’ record signing Alexander Isak impressed on his full debut in midweek, playing 58 minutes, and is pushing to retain his place in the starting XI. Fellow summer arrival Hugo Ekitike is also in line for a recall and could spearhead the attack.

Mohamed Salah will once again be a key figure, having scored eight Premier League goals against Everton – just one shy of Steven Gerrard’s all-time club record of nine. Slot must also decide whether to bring Alexis Mac Allister back into midfield, which could see either Dominik Szoboszlai or Ryan Gravenberch drop to the bench. At left-back, Andrew Robertson will hope to keep his starting spot ahead of Milos Kerkez.

For Everton, David Moyes faces a few injury concerns. Jarrad Branthwaite (hamstring) and Vitaliy Mykolenko (unspecified) are “making progress” but remain doubtful for the clash. Even if Branthwaite passes a late fitness test, a starting role appears unlikely. Should Mykolenko miss out, James Garner is expected to continue deputising at left-back alongside James Tarkowski, Michael Keane, and Jake O’Brien in defence, shielding goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Further forward, Jack Grealish – the Premier League’s Player of the Month for August – and Iliman Ndiaye are set to start on the wings, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall operating in an advanced central position. Moyes must also choose between keeping faith with Beto up front or handing Thierno Barry another chance as he searches for his first goal in Everton colours.
