Manchester United vs Chelsea – Match Preview

Manchester United head into this weekend’s clash with injury concerns still lingering. Lisandro Martinez remains sidelined as he continues recovery from a long-term knee injury, while Diogo Dalot is also out with a muscle problem. On the positive side, manager Rúben Amorim has confirmed that Matheus Cunha (hamstring) and Mason Mount are available for selection, though it’s unclear if either will be fit enough to start.

One of Amorim’s key decisions will be whether to hand new signing Senne Lammens his Premier League debut in goal or keep faith with Altay Bayindir. Up front, Bryan Mbeumo – who has a strong record against Chelsea with six goal involvements in seven appearances – is expected to lead the attack alongside Amad Diallo and Benjamin Sesko. In midfield, Casemiro will compete with Manuel Ugarte for a place next to skipper Bruno Fernandes.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are still without several key players. Romeo Lavia and Benoit Badiashile are nearing full fitness but will not feature this weekend. Levi Colwill (knee), Liam Delap (hamstring), and Dario Essugo (thigh) remain unavailable, while Mykhaylo Mudryk is suspended.

Reece James could return to right-back after playing in midfield during the week, which might push Enzo Fernandez into a deeper role alongside Moises Caicedo. Cole Palmer, who has scored in back-to-back games, is expected to operate as the playmaker.

On the wings, Pedro Neto looks set to start on the right, while Jamie Gittens or former United winger Alejandro Garnacho could feature on the left. Garnacho, who recently joined Chelsea in a £40m deadline-day move, is reportedly “ready to start” and eager to face his former club.

Joao Pedro will likely lead the line once again. The Brazilian has been in red-hot form, contributing to five goals already this season (two goals, three assists) and boasting an impressive record against United with three goals in five league meetings.

This promises to be a high-intensity clash, with plenty of storylines – from Garnacho’s return to Old Trafford to the potential debut of United’s new goalkeeper – making this a must-watch encounter.
