Prediction and Preview

 Manchester United 1 - 2  Sunderland

Manchester United possible starting lineup:

Bayindir; Yoro, De Ligt, Shaw; Dalot, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu; Mbeumo, Cunha; Sesko

Sunderland possible starting lineup:

Roefs; Hume, Mukiele, Alderete, Masuaku; Rigg, Xhaka, Sadiki; Talbi, Isidor, Le Fee

Manchester United are still without Lisandro Martínez (knee) and Noussair Mazraoui (thigh), but Casemiro is available again after serving a one-match suspension. Amad Diallo, who missed the defeat to Brentford following a family bereavement, has rejoined training and could also return to the squad.

Rúben Amorim was left frustrated by United’s defensive showing last weekend, making two centre-back changes during the game. That could open the door for Leny Yoro to reclaim a starting spot, most likely in place of Harry Maguire, while Altay Bayındır is expected to keep his place ahead of Senne Lammens, who is still awaiting his Premier League debut.

Captain Bruno Fernandes will once again be pivotal, having registered five goals and six assists in his last nine outings against newly-promoted opposition. He is set to partner either Casemiro or Manuel Ugarte in midfield, while Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Šeško are tipped to continue in the attacking trident.

Sunderland, meanwhile, remain heavily impacted by injuries. Habib Diarra (groin), Romaine Mundle (hamstring), Dennis Cirkin (wrist), Aji Alese (shoulder), and Leo Hjelde (Achilles) are all sidelined, while Reinildo Mandava serves the second of a three-match suspension.

Boss Régis Le Bris has confirmed that Nordi Mukiele is fit despite online speculation to the contrary, and the Frenchman could once again feature alongside Omar Alderete at the back, though Daniel Ballard is pressing for a recall. In midfield, Granit Xhaka should retain his spot alongside Noah Sadiki and teenage talent Chris Rigg. The Swiss veteran has assisted Sunderland’s last three Premier League goals, and could match Chris Waddle’s 1997 record of four consecutive assists in the top flight for the Black Cats.
