Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca will have to contend with another depleted squad this weekend. Pedro’s midweek red card does not affect his domestic eligibility, but Trevoh Chalobah will serve a one-match ban for his dismissal in the defeat to Brighton.
Chalobah joins Mykhaylo Mudryk (suspended), Dario Essugo (thigh), Tosin Adarabioyo (calf), Cole Palmer (groin), Liam Delap (thigh), and Levi Colwill (knee) on the absentee list. Wesley Fofana (head) and Andrey Santos (knock) are also doubts, with Maresca admitting he expects to be without “seven or eight players,” but declining to specify their status.
If Fofana is not cleared under concussion protocols, youngster Josh Acheampong could be pressed into action at centre-back, potentially alongside fellow teenager Jorrel Hato, should Benoît Badiashile not be risked for a second game in quick succession.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have been more fortunate with injuries this season but were dealt a blow in their midweek Champions League defeat to Galatasaray. Alisson Becker picked up a groin problem and has been ruled out by Arne Slot, while Hugo Ekitike is also nursing a thigh issue, though his recovery timeline is more encouraging.
Alexander Isak is expected to step in and will aim to continue his impressive Stamford Bridge record, having scored there in each of the past two campaigns. Slot may also be boosted by the return of Federico Chiesa from a minor niggle, though Giovanni Leoni (ACL) remains a long-term absentee.
