Argentina U20
Argentina’s youth squad began the tournament in scintillating form, winning all three of their group-stage matches to comfortably top their group.
Their campaign kicked off with a resilient 3-1 victory over Cuba, achieved despite being reduced to ten men as early as the 10th minute. The momentum carried into the second match, where Argentina outclassed Australia 4-1, scoring twice in stoppage time to seal the win in dramatic fashion.
In their final group game — a battle for supremacy — Argentina edged Italy 1-0, thanks to a decisive 76th-minute strike from Gorosito. One player to watch is Alejo Sarco of Bayer, who has been in outstanding form, scoring three goals in three appearances to emerge as one of the tournament’s standout forwards.
Nigeria U20
Nigeria endured a far tougher path through the group stage, finishing third in their section but advancing to the knockout rounds as one of the best third-placed teams.
The team’s campaign began with a frustrating 0-1 loss to Norway, where an early penalty proved decisive despite Nigeria dominating much of the play. They bounced back in the second match with a 3-2 victory over Saudi Arabia, clinching all three points through a last-gasp penalty in the 94th minute.
Their final group game against Colombia was a tense affair, with Nigeria needing at least a draw to stay alive. A late equalizer secured a 1-1 draw, ensuring their progression and setting up an intriguing clash against one of the tournament’s most in-form sides, Argentina.
