England vs Wales: Team News and Preview

England will be without several key players for their upcoming clash against Wales, including Player of the Year Jude Bellingham, as well as Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, and Adam Wharton, all of whom have been omitted from Thomas Tuchel’s squad. The England boss has emphasized that he has “no problem” with any of the excluded players, suggesting his selections are purely tactical and fitness-based.

In addition, Reece James, Tino Livramento, and Noni Madueke, who all started in the previous match against Serbia, miss out through injury. They join Cole Palmer and Trent Alexander-Arnold on the sidelines. Captain Harry Kane is also ruled out after sustaining an ankle issue that kept him out of training earlier in the week.

Manchester City youngster Nico O’Reilly has received his first senior call-up following James’s withdrawal on Monday. He could compete with Myles Lewis-Skelly and Djed Spence for a place at left-back, while John Stones is fit again and ready to start in central defense after missing last month’s internationals.

Bukayo Saka returns to the squad and will be pushing for a start on the right flank. With Kane absent, Ollie Watkins, Marcus Rashford, and Jarrod Bowen are the leading contenders to spearhead the attack.

As for Wales, experienced midfielder Aaron Ramsey—now playing in Mexico with Pumas UNAM—has been forced to withdraw due to an unspecified injury. Daniel James of Leeds United is also unavailable with an ankle issue.

Manager Craig Bellamy has called up Cardiff City duo Isaak Davies and Rubin Colwill as replacements. The squad still boasts plenty of Premier League representation, including Karl Darlow, Joe Rodon, and Ethan Ampadu from Leeds, Brennan Johnson and Ben Davies from Tottenham, and Harry Wilson from Fulham.

In attack, Kieffer Moore of Wrexham has been in strong form, scoring four goals in nine Championship appearances this season. The 50-cap striker has also netted in each of his last two games for Wales—against Liechtenstein and Kazakhstan—and will be looking to make it three consecutive scoring appearances for his country for the first time in his career.
